HISTORY OF
KURIJA OMILJE

Kurija Omilje, once a small noble estate above the village of Donja Drenova near Sesvete, is a place that holds countless stories, anecdotes, and legends nearly two centuries old. It is situated on a hill offering a stunning view of a valley dotted with vineyards, forests, and meadows. Nearby, you will also find the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes.

The entrance portal of Kurija Omilje bears the inscription “1822,” believed to be the year of the manor’s construction.

The last known owners of Omilje were the Krizmanić family. Celebrated Croatian painter and printmaker Anka Krizmanić was born in Omilje on March 10, 1896, as a member of this family. At that time, Kurija Omilje served as a meeting place for prominent figures of the Illyrian movement, such as Stanko Vraz, Ljudevit Gaj, Stjepan Mlinarić, Vjekoslav Babukić, Dragutin Rakovac, Abbot Krizmanić, and others.

In 1872, the manor was transformed into a one-room public school.

The school was closed in 1977, and the manor fell into disrepair, left to the mercy of time and weather for decades.

In 2009, for the first time since 1912, the manor returned to private ownership. The Pisačić family acquired Kurija Omilje and, over the course of ten years, restored it entirely using their own resources.
